Stress and Supplements

Hi all!

Today I’m going to discuss supplements for stress. In this particularly challenging time, especially with students returning to school in a non-traditional fashion, sometimes it seems like our thoughts resemble that of a hamster running in a wheel. If we focus on balancing our brain chemistry with the right supplements, it can help to slow down those thoughts and allow us to tackle them without feeling overwhelmed.

When it comes to stress, there are two supplements that come to mind right away.

  • The first is called Calm-Eze, and it targets anxiety by reducing excitability in the brain. One of the main components of this supplement is L-Theanine, which has been a personal preference of mine for reducing anxiety.
  • The second supplement I prefer is magnesium. Magnesium has a multitude of health benefits, but in this case, it can be very beneficial in helping one fall and stay asleep. It accomplishes this by calming muscles in the body while also promoting a healthy balance of the neurotransmitters in the brain.

We do carry both of these supplements in our office, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding stress and supplementation!

Have a great Labor Day weekend! -Dr. Brittany

Up to 500 mg per day of magnesium is our usual recommendation. I would take it in the morning to ensure it's in your system for bedtime. Also, it might take several weeks of consumption for you to feel benefits depending on how deficient you are. - Dr. Kim
